    Core Technology

    The Physics of the Core

    SPC Stone Plastic Composite

SPC cores are harder, denser, and more durable than any other vinyl construction. But because they are rigid, they are completely unforgiving to subfloor imperfections. A dip of more than 1/8 inch over 10 feet will cause the tongue-and-groove locking system to snap under foot traffic. The plank cannot flex to absorb the void. It fractures instead.

    WPC Wood Plastic Composite

WPC cores offer more cushion underfoot and better sound absorption than SPC. The softer composite provides slight flex, but this is not a license to skip subfloor prep. WPC still demands tight flatness tolerances to prevent joint separation and telegraphing over time. Every vinyl floor, regardless of core type, lives or dies on the subfloor beneath it.

    Forensic Subfloor Prep

    The 1/8 Inch Mandate

Every luxury vinyl plank manufacturer specifies the same tolerance: no more than 3/16 inch variation over 10 feet. We hold ourselves to 1/8 inch. Because on a rigid SPC floor, that extra 1/16 inch is the difference between a 20-year floor and a warranty claim in year two.

Our forensic subfloor process begins with laser-guided flatness mapping. We identify every dip, crown, and transition point before a single plank is unpacked. Then we engineer the correction using engineered subfloor preparation including self-leveling underlayment, mastic encapsulation, and mechanical grinding. The result is a substrate so flat that the locking system never bears structural load. It only connects.

Non-negotiable flatness tolerance: 1/8 inch over 10 feet

    Wear Layer Science

    The 20 Mil Standard

The image you see on a vinyl plank is a high-definition photograph printed beneath a clear urethane wear layer. Cheap LVP uses 6 to 12 mil wear layers that scratch through within a few years, exposing the printed image to damage. We specify 20-mil wear layers as our baseline.

But thickness alone is not enough. We look for high-definition textures where the surface embossing aligns with the printed grain image. This technique, called Registered Embossing or EIR (Embossed In Register), creates a tactile experience that mimics the feel of real hardwood. When guests run their hand across the plank, they feel grain. Not plastic.

    Premium Finishing Details

    Architectural Jewelry

    Ali Trims by Stairrods

We eliminate cheap plastic T-moldings from every project. In their place, we install precision-machined Ali Trims from Stairrods UK. These aluminum and brass transition profiles create clean, permanent joints between flooring types. Available in brushed chrome, antique brass, satin nickel, and matte black, they transform a functional transition into an architectural statement.

    TOP Step Flush Mount Vents

Standard raised metal registers create trip hazards and break the visual plane of a floor. Our TOP Step flush-mount vents sit perfectly level with the flooring surface, matched to the exact grain pattern and color of your LVP. The result is a seamless, furniture-grade finish that most visitors never notice. That is the point.

    Licensed Residential Builder

LVP projects frequently involve kitchens and laundry rooms โ€” areas with appliances that require disconnection before work can begin. As a Licensed Michigan Residential Builder, we coordinate licensed plumbers for all gas and water line work. The floor gets done right. The appliances get handled safely.

    Your floor deserves forensic-level precision.

We engineer the subfloor, specify the core, and finish with architectural details that elevate LVP beyond its category.

"We had a great experience with our flooring install. Our installer Aaron was very professional, he set the standard by which everyone will be judged against. He cleaned up everyday and the way he put the extra effort in to level and prep our floor the right way made us very glad that we got our flooring here. They make the floors themselves and the product speaks for itself. We looked around at many places and couldn't find anything comparable to their product."

    LVP Installation FAQs

    LVP installation questions answered.

SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) uses a rigid limestone core that is harder and more durable but completely unforgiving to subfloor imperfections. WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) has a softer, more cushioned core with better sound absorption. Both require forensic subfloor preparation, but SPC demands tighter flatness tolerances because its rigidity causes tongue-and-groove failure over subfloor dips.

Luxury vinyl plank is a floating floor with a mechanical locking system. If the subfloor has dips or crowns exceeding 1/8 inch over 10 feet, the rigid locking tongues bear structural load they were never designed to handle. Over time, they fracture, causing visible gaps, clicking sounds, and premature failure. Our forensic subfloor preparation eliminates these risks before the first plank is laid.

The wear layer is the clear urethane coating that protects the printed image on a vinyl plank. Budget LVP uses 6 to 12 mil layers that scratch through within a few years. We specify 20-mil wear layers as our baseline because they resist scratches, scuffs, and UV fading for decades, keeping the high-definition wood image pristine under real-world traffic.

Ali Trims are precision-machined aluminum and brass transition profiles from Stairrods UK. They replace the cheap plastic T-moldings that most installers use at doorways and floor transitions. Available in brushed chrome, antique brass, satin nickel, and matte black, they transform functional transitions into architectural details that elevate the entire installation.

Yes. Most SPC and WPC products are compatible with radiant heat systems when the surface temperature stays below 85 degrees Fahrenheit. We verify manufacturer specifications for every product and ensure your radiant system is properly calibrated before installation begins.

A typical 1,000 square foot LVP installation takes 1 to 3 days depending on subfloor conditions and layout complexity. However, if significant subfloor preparation is required, the total project timeline extends to account for leveling, priming, and curing. We provide a detailed timeline during your consultation.
