The Floor: Engineered Solid European White Oak
Big Sky is built as a ¾ inch, 3 ply engineered solid floor: a 6mm sawn face of Northwestern European white oak over a dense Hevea hardwood core. A sawn face that thick sands and refinishes much like a solid floor, while the cross ply core moves less than solid wood through Michigan's dry winters and humid summers. It is also rated for radiant heat. We check the subfloor for flatness and the moisture content of both the subfloor and the boards before a single plank goes down.
The Color: Viking Chisholm
Chisholm is a natural looking color in Viking's Big Sky collection. Viking colors Big Sky with reactive stains that work with the tannin in the oak instead of sitting on top of it, so the tone follows the grain of each board, and finishes it with a UV cured ultra matte urethane. You can see Chisholm and the rest of the Big Sky collection in our Livonia showroom.
