The Story
A Lakeside Vision in "Raw Wood."
The Invisible Standard
When a Harbor Springs homeowner requested a floor that looked 'as if the maple grew that way,' we knew this would define our Northern Michigan portfolio. The invisible finish a zero-sheen, penetrating oil system eliminates surface gloss entirely. What remains is pure wood, tactile and honest.
Multi-Story Precision
This project spanned multiple stories including a dramatic vaulted great room, a curved turret bay, three staircases, and miles of hallway. Each transition had to be invisible. No thresholds. No height changes. The floor flows continuously like one unbroken surface from the entry to the upper reaches of the home.
The Northern Challenge
Harbor Springs sits on the shores of Little Traverse Bay where humidity can swing 40% between July and January. For a whole-home sand and finish of this scale, we coordinated HVAC commissioning, moisture mapping, and staged our sanding sequence room-by-room to ensure uniform finish absorption across every level and every plank.
The Technical Edge
The "Invisible" Finish.
The Aesthetic
Maple is notoriously difficult to finish without it turning a "basketball-court orange." We utilized a specialized Invisible Finish an ultra-matte, non-yellowing protective layer that shields the wood while remaining completely undetectable. The design goal was a "Raw-Wood" Scandinavian aesthetic that preserves the natural, pale beauty of Northern Maple.
The Staircase
The multi-level staircase integration demanded precise color-matching across winder treads, risers, and landings all finished with the same invisible protective layer for a seamless three-story flow.
Dust Control
Our advanced dust-controlled sanding systems were essential for a project of this caliber protecting the builder's in-progress finishes while delivering a surgically clean surface for the invisible finish to bond.
